The 2024 Giro d’Italia ended in Rome in front of the Colosseum on May 26. My apologies for not getting this recap up sooner.
As expected, the utter domination of cycling’s terminator, Tadej Pogacar, was on full display for the entirety of the Giro. He wore for the Maglia Rosa for 20 days, won 6 stages, and won the General Classification by just shy of 10 minutes.
Second place on the final podium went to Dani Martinez, and third went to Geraint Thomas.
Other notable performances included three stages apiece for sprinters Jonathan Milan and Tim Merlier, a nice breakaway comeback win by Julian Alaphilippe, and some breakthrough performances with stage wins for Pelayo Sanchez, Georg Steinhauser, and Valentin Paret-Peintre.
Antonio Tiberi took the youth classification, Milan the sprints classification, and Pogacar also took the mountains jersey.
Cannot wait for Pogacar to do the double in France.
